Prof Susana García and Prof Berend Smit showcased PrISMa and USorb-DAC projects at COP27. The event, entitled “Carboncrowd: PRISMA, accelerating DAC sorbent disovery with supercomputing and citizen science” is now available to watch online here.
Direct Air Capture’s future impact will be limited by the efficacy of its core chemistry and the material it deploys to absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere, known as sorbent. Today we have barely scratched the surface in our effort to identify the most effective sorbents that can one day enable DAC to reach gigaton scale. Advanced supercomputing has the potential to vastly accelerate discovery progress, particularly when linked to the power of open source/open access tools that enable anyone in the world to upload their materials for characterization.
